A bus driver was injured after two tourist buses collided with each other on the busy Ghodbunder Road in Thane on Tuesday morning.

The mishap took place on Ghodbunder road near Shankar Mandir at Gaimukh in Thane West today morning.

According to preliminary information, the tourist bus of Raman Travels (MH 04 JK 4068) rammed into another tourist bus (MH 04 GP 2781) from behind.

Officials, however, are yet to ascertain if the bus travelling at the back rammed into the other due to overspeeding or if the one at front came to a sudden halt.

While no one in the first bus was injured, the driver of the trailing bus (Raman Travels) was hurt and had to be rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver, identified as Bhiku Das (23), sustained severe injuries on both his legs and is currently receiving treatment at Kevalya Hospital on Ghodbunder Road. The 35 passengers of his bus, however, escaped unhurt.

Meanwhile, officials from local police, regional disaster management cell (RDMC) and fire brigade, with an emergency tender and a rescue vehicle, reached the spot along with one ambulance to prevent any untoward incident following the accident.

The Raman Travels bus, owned by Raju Rathod, was travelling from Borivali to Thane. The route of the other bus is not known as of publishing this report.
