The Education Department is set to announce the general merit list for first-year junior college (FYJC) admissions for the academic year 2018-19 on Friday.

The list will be followed by four merit lists, on the basis of which students will be able to apply for seats in colleges across Science, Arts and Commerce streams.

The general merit list is expected to be out by 5 pm tomorrow. Students will be able to check the same by visiting the state education department’s admission portal.

Once the list is out;

# Students who need to get corrections done can submit the same to the Deputy Director of Education in the prescribed format between June 30 and July 2.

# All corrections will be completed/rectified by July 3.

# The first merit list will be declared on July 5.

# Students who have been allotted their preferred colleges will have to confirm admission by paying the fees.

# Applicants will have time from July 6 to July 9 (excluding Sunday, July 8) to pay fees and confirm admission.

After the completion of the first round, a vacancy list will be put up on the admission portal, following which students will have to fill the form for the second round with an updated list of preferred colleges.

In each merit list, students will be assigned colleges on the basis of their marks, category, and college preference.

Meanwhile, the department also declared the second merit list for bifocal courses today. Those who wish to take admission on the basis of the second list will have to pay fees in the respective colleges till 5 pm on Friday, June 29.

In the first round, 7,406 out of 14,338 students were allotted seats. However, many students complained of being assigned colleges that were at a lower preference despite having scored the required marks to clear the cut-off of a higher priority college.

This is the first time, the department announced a centralised merit list for bifocal courses.
