David Headley said he was funding LeT.
David Coleman Headley, who is testifying as an approver in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case, has revealed some conspicuous details during the cross-examination that’s happening in a special court in today.
Here’s what all he said:
- I violated the plea bargaining agreements (that I will not indulge in criminal activities) of 1988 and 1998 by joining LeT.
- I speak Punjabi, I learnt the language in Lahore.
- I had invested in UAE and Pakistan after 2002 and had few shops in UAE.
- I was in drug business since 1992 till 1998.
- A man called Zeb Shah in Pakistan was helping me in my drug business.
- I talked to Zeb Shah about smuggling weapons to India in 2006, but it was not me who was trying to smuggle.
- I wanted to introduce someone to Zeb Shah who was interested in smuggling weapons to India.
- Tahawwur Rana was knowing my association with LeT, but he was not in touch with LeT.
- I had no income from LeT, but was funding them myself.
However, Headley recused himself from answering any questions pertaining to his wife Shazia Gilani, says ‘ask question about me not my wife’.
During his earlier deposition, Headley had made these startling revelations:
- I was told to survey naval air station and Siddhivinayak Temple, but I discouraged the idea to target them as both were heavily guarded.
- I bought the yellow and red sacred threads that were sold outside Siddhivinayak Temple for 10 people to tie across their wrists so they could blend in.
- I met Rajaram Rege (associated with Shiv Sena) for the first time inside Shiv Sena Bhavan, and wanted to develop a close relationship with him.
- I thought that in the future, LeT would be interested in attacking the Shiv Sena or assassinating its head. At that time, I thought that LeT would want to target it.
Headley drew maps, took video footage and scouted several targets for the attacks including the Taj Hotel, Oberoi Hotel and Nariman House.
