A massive fire broke out at a godown in Wajid Ali Compound in Mumbai’s Saki Naka area on Thursday afternoon.

Details about the fire:

Location: According to preliminary information, the fire broke out at a godown inside Wajid Ali Compound located on 90 Feet Road in Tilak Nagar, Saki Naka.

Time: The mishap took place around noon today, and the fire department was alerted immediately after.

Severity: Fire officials reached the spot with ten fire tenders and more are likely to be pressed into service. Local police and an ambulance have also reached the spot.

Cause of fire: The cause of the blaze is not known as a confirmation from the fire department is awaited.

Casualties & damage: No casualties were reported in the mishap as of publishing this report. However, a major loss of property is estimated.

Current status: The fire has spread to two other godowns in the vicinity. Fire fighters are trying to control the blaze in all three godowns as of 12:45 pm. There is heavy police presence in the area. Further details are awaited.

Update:

(2 pm) At least four godowns were gutted in the fire, which was finally brought under control by 1:15 pm. Mumbai police confirmed that everyone was evacuated safely and that the blaze did not result in any casualties.

In a similar incident earlier this week, a blaze gutted Ambience Lights & Sounds showroom at Andheri’s Laxmi Industrial Estate on Monday.

A massive fire broke out at a commercial building in Thane on Tuesday morning. The blaze did not result in any casualties.

Details:

Location: According to preliminary information, the fire broke out on the sixth floor of Samarth Arcade building located at Prabhakar Hegde Marg in Uthalsar, Thane West.

Time: The mishap took place early morning today, following which fire department was alerted.

Severity: Officials from the fire department arrived the spot with two fire tenders initially. Later, two more were pressed into service.

Casualties & damage: The floor was evacuated before the blaze got out of hand. No casualties have been reported as of publishing this report.

Current status: The fire has been brought under control as of 11:30 am. Officials from the fire department and local police are on the spot, surveying the premises.

Update:

(1 pm) – The blaze broke out at real estate developer Sanjay Bhalerao’s office around 10 am. Since the office was locked at the time, the fire only became evident after the smoke started billowing from the office window.

A nursing home on the first floor was evacuated as a precautionary measure and no one was reported injured. The fire department is yet to ascertain the cause of fire.

The mishap comes barely four days after three people were killed and 15 injured in a series of blasts and a massive fire at a private chemical manufacturing company at Tarapur MIDC in Maharashtra’s Palghar district.

A major mishap was averted after a fire that broke out in the premises of a Hindustan Petroleum pump in Kurla on Wednesday afternoon was brought under control before the blaze could engulf any of the fuel dispensers.

The fire broke out earlier today near the cabin of HP petrol pump, located next to Mumbai Taxi Association Co-Operative Society near Kurla Bus Depot in Kurla West. The cabin was situated approximately 20 feet away from the dispensers.

Fire brigade was alerted about the mishap immediately, following which one fire tender was pressed into service. The blaze was brought under control in minutes and no casualties or major damage was reported.

The cause of fire is not yet known and further details are awaited.

The incident comes a day after a massive blaze had gutted a godown at Eastel Metal Company in Mumbai’s Kalachowki area. The level IV blaze was brought under control with the help of 16 fire engines and ten water tankers.

Incidentally, Mumbai witnessed 295 fires in the 60 days since the tragic Kamala Mills incident on December 28, according to official data released by the BMC earlier this week.

A massive fire broke out at a godown in Mumbai’s Kalachowki area on Tuesday afternoon.

Details:

Location: According to preliminary information, the fire broke out in a godown at Eastel Metal Company, located at Dattaram Lad Marg in Mumbai’s Kalachowki area. The godown is located opposite Aastha Maternity Nursing Home.

Time: The mishap took place around noon today, following which fire department was alerted.

Severity: Officials from the fire department arrived the spot with at least eight fire tenders and six water tankers. The blaze was escalated to Level III call as of 12:03 pm and more emergency vehicles were pressed into service. Two ambulances have also reached the spot.

Casualties & damage: No casualties have been reported as of publishing this report.

Current status: Firefighting is underway as of 12:30 pm. The residents from the nearby high rises have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and thick black smoke can be seen billowing into the sky. Mumbai Police has sealed the main road leading up to godown.

Updates:

(12:50 pm) The fire has been escalated to Level IV at 12:23 pm and fire fighting is still underway.

(1:20 pm) A total of 16 fire engines and 12 jumbo tankers have been deployed to douse the fire. The blaze is confined to a ground-plus one storey godown.

(2:10 pm) The blaze has been brought under control and cooling operations are underway. No casualties were reported in the mishap.

The incident comes four days after a massive blaze broke out at a chemical godown on Khairani Road in Ghatkopar’s Asalpha village. The fire was doused after nearly 12 hours of firefighting.

A fire broke out at Narayana Compound loom factory in Bhiwandi during the wee hours of Wednesday. The blaze did not result in any casualties.

Details:

Location: The fire broke out at Narayana Compound loom factory at Bhiwandi in the neighbouring Thane district.

Time: The mishap took place around 1 am today, following which fire department was alerted.

Severity: Officials from the fire department arrived the spot with four fire engines and one water tank to douse the fire. The compound is located in the vicinity of the fire station, which allowed emergency vehicles to reach the spot in no time.

Casualties & damage: While no casualties were reported, millions of raw cloths including dozens of power loom machines, warping machines, and cloth threads were destroyed in the flame.

Current status: The fire has been doused as of publishing this report. Around 50 people from a neighbouring building, who were evacuated after they felt uneasiness in breathing due to the fumes, have also been allowed to enter the area.

Cause of fire: The fire department is yet to confirm the cause of fire.

Over to two dozen such incidents have been reported in Maharashtra alone since the start of the year. In the most recent one, a fire had broke out at Gokul shopping centre in Mumbai’s Borivali West on Monday night.
