Versova police has filed an FIR against actor Kamaal Rashid Khan (KRK) for allegedly posting obscene content and outraging the modesty of a woman on micro-blogging platform, Twitter. Mumbai-based lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee had earlier filed a complaint with Maharashtra State Women Commission (MSWC) on June 28 against the Bollywood critic, alleging that that KRK sexually harassed over 18 film actresses on social media platforms. MSWC took cognizance of the complaint against the ‘Deshdrohi’ actor two weeks back and wrote to Mumbai police commissioner Dattatray Padsalgikar on July 18, requesting him to investigate the matter and take requisite action against the actor. “The Twitter proofs given to us showed that Kamaal Khan had been badly abusing film actors continuously. Since the police have the expertise to deal with such cyber crimes, we asked the commissioner to investigate and take action,” said MSWC chief Vijaya Rahatkar.
When contacted by a leading daily, KRK refuted all allegations and denied having any knowledge about a police complaint registered against him.
Versova police senior inspector Kiran Kale, however, confirmed that a first information report had indeed been registered against KRK and that they are currently probing the complaint. In the past, KRK has often stirred controversy after posting offensive messages against Bollywood celebrities on his micro-blogging account, where he has around 1.2 million followers. Most recently, Vikram Bhatt had sought legal action against him for slandering his name, but the director later dropped the case after KRK apologized for his statements.
