Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account hacked & ‘abused’, Congress cries conspiracy

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has become the latest victim of a cyber attack, after hackers gained access to his official Twitter account on Wednesday.

The miscreants posted multiple tweets, many of which contained expletives and abuses, which were later deleted.

The first reaction to the attack came from the party, who termed it a “sinister conspiracy and reflected disturbing insecurities of prevalent fascist culture”.

One of the illegal posts had abusive language like “my family is a bunch of corrupt….(expletives) retarded… (expletives)”.

The hackers also removed Gandhi’s profile picture and the account description was changed to read “This is the official account of the Office of Retard Gandhi”.

While the first few tweets, posted around 8:45 pm, were immediately deleted, the hackers kept on tweeting for a few more minutes.

By the time the team who handles the account managed to restore access and lock the hackers out, the damage had been done. Images of the tweets made its way to social media and Gandhi, for no fault of his own, ended up getting trolled.

“Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter handle has been hacked. We will file a complaint with the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police,” Congress Media Coordinator Pranav Jha told news agency IANS.

Congress Communication Department head Randeep Singh Surjewla tweeted: “Such unscrupulous, unethical and roguish conduct of venal trolls to hack @OfficeOfRG reflects disturbing insecurities of prevalent fascist culture.”

“Pre-meditated hacking of @OfficeOfRG smacks of a sinister conspiracy to abuse and intimidate. It stregthens our resolve to fight for the nation,” he tweeted.

“Hacking of@OfficeofRG proves lack of digital safety around each one of us. Every digital info can be accessed, altered, morphed and modified,” he added.

Since the last few weeks, Gandhi has been spearheading the fight against the government following the demonetization of high value currency on November 8. He has also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to appear in the parliament and refusing to speak on the issues.
