Juhu cops detain man for threatening to kill himself in front of PM Modi
The Juhu Police had detained a 51-year-old man for threatening to immolate himself in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Mumbai visit yesterday. The PM had come to the city to inaugurate the Maritime India Summit at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre in Goregaon.
The man, identified as Sanjay Pardeshi, had written a letter to the PM alleging that the BMC had meted out ‘injustice’ to him on the instructions of a BJP legislator and therefore he’s left with no option but to end his life. Upon receiving an alert about Pardeshi’s plan, cops detained him a couple of hours before the PM’s arrival and was kept in Juhu police station till 9 pm.
According to police records, Pardeshi has encroached upon an acre of land in Juhu and has built illegal shanties on the plot. Following a massive demolition in February last year, he was booked under the Maharashtra Region and Town Planning (MRTP) Act.
However Pardeshi claims that a BJP MLA, a builder and BMC officials are all trying to remove him from the area and are registering false cases against him because he’s a dalit.
