In a bid to make officers more internet-savvy, the Maharashtra Police has decided to equip major police stations of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai with free Wi-Fi Internet facility.

“We want all our police stations be equipped with free Wi-Fi facility which will enable our workforce to be more proactive and competitive,” said V V Laxminarayan, Additional Director General of Police (admin).

From March 2016, broadband and gaming service provider company, Joister, has been offering its free Wi-Fi service as its CSR initiative at around 33 police stations in Thane district.

Now the police have tied up with Joister to extend the facility to more stations across the three cities. In the future, authorities plan on expanding the facility to cover the entire state when the company approaches the department with further proposals.

Apart from police stations, Joister has also installed the service at Mumbai & Thane RTO headquarters, police training centre at Marol (Mumbai), 21 government offices, 15 colleges, eight slums, four hospitals and three bus terminals in the state.
