Gutsy housewife gets bag snatcher arrested inside a bank in Chembur East

A valiant housewife fought off a man who tried to snatch her purse inside a Chembur bank yesterday.

The accused, identified as Abed Irani approached 35-year-old Indira Rajan while she was filling in a pay in slip at a bank in Chembur East to deposit some cash.

Irani offered to help her fill in the slip, which she refused. Immediately he grabbed purse and tried to run away with it. However, Rajan didn’t meekly give in. She fought Irani off for at least five full minutes, desperately holding onto her purse and raising an alarm.

The accused was restrained by the other customers, who called up the Police Control Room, and ensured that he doesn’t run away till the time the police arrive.

Irani was taken to the Govandi police station where he was booked for attempt to commit robbery.
