Dumper crashes into barrier at Lalbaug flyover, disrupts traffic
In a freak mishap, a dumper rammed into the safety barrier of Lalbaug flyover early Monday morning, disrupting traffic on the route.
The mishap took place around 7 am when the dumper was travelling on the south-bound lane of Lalbaug flyover near ITC Hotel in Parel.
According to sources, the driver likely lost control of the vehicle due to wet roads and rammed into the barrier. Fortunately for its occupants, the structure did not give way and prevented the vehicle from either falling down or overturning.
The driver and the helper both managed to escape unhurt.
The flyover, meanwhile, was temporarily closed after officials from traffic police and fire brigade reached the spot following the mishap. While work on removing the dumper was underway, traffic movement from Dadar to Byculla was severely affected.
The dumper has been removed and the flyover has been opened for vehicular traffic as of 11 am, but there is still congestion on the road as heavy rains continue to lash the city.
The incident comes two days after a truck collided with a car and bike on Western Express Highway (WEH) near Jogeshwari, resulting in the death of one person and leaving five others injured.
