At least four persons were injured after a railway compound wall near Kurla station collapsed on Friday morning.

According to officials, the compound wall located next to Kurla station’s platform number 1, near Hotel Ram Mahal on Kurla Station road, collapsed around 9:50 am today.

Emergency agencies were immediately alerted about the mishap, following which officials from the Mumbai Fire brigade, local police and ward staff arrived at the spot.

At least four persons, mostly pedestrians, were injured in the mishap and rushed to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra for treatment.

The injured, all males, were identified as Mohammad Siraj Pantoji (30), Lakham Baburao Khatal (29), Laxman Vishnu Patil (50) and Amir Kasim Khan (59). All of them are in stable condition.

While the mishap did not affect railway traffic on the Central line, it caused some inconvenience to pedestrians who use the road on a daily basis.

Work on removing the debris is underway as of publishing this report.


Update

(12:30 pm): “A portion of an old wall between Railway and the Municipal area near platform number 1 at Kurla collapsed around 10 am today, injuring 4 persons,” CR CPRO Sunil Udasi said.

“There is no repercussion on train services on this section and the prima facie cause is being investigated,” he added.


The incident comes a week after a brick-laden truck overturned near the booking counter of Vidyavihar station. At least two persons sustained injuries in the mishap and had to be admitted to Rajawadi hospital for treatment.
