2 dead in accident at TCS construction site in Hiranandani Estate, Thane
At least two workers were killed, and several others trapped, in an accident at an under construction site in Hiranandani Estate at Thane on Friday evening.
The incident took place around 4 pm today, when a group of labourers started laying the foundation of a new building near the Bayer India Company office at Hiranandani Estate, Patlipada, G.B.road in Thane (W).
According to TOI, the commercial building belonged to Tata Group subsidiary Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
Minutes after starting work, a mudslide occurred, following which at least seven workers were trapped under the debris.
The remaining workers tried rescuing those who were trapped and alerted authorities. Later, the disaster management team of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) also arrived at the spot and began rescue operation.
However, at least two workers lost their lives due to the mishap. One of them has been identified as Abdul Hussain.
Efforts to reduce the remaining five workers is currently underway.
According to Santosh Kadam, regional disaster management officer, TMC, the soil from above the trench became loose and collapsed, burying all the workers.
