20 injured as luxury bus overturns near Lonavala on Mumbai-Pune expressway
In yet another mishap on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, around 20 people are believed to have been injured after the luxury bus they were traveling in overturned near Lonavala on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident took place around noon near Valvan bridge on the expressway.
According to preliminary information, the bus (MH-04-GP-4747) was travelling towards Mumbai from Pune when the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle near a curve.
The bus, belonging to Shri Siddheshwar travels, was carrying around two dozen passengers, including the driver and cleaner.
An official from Lonavala city police station reportedly confirmed that at least 20 injured passengers were rushed to hospitals near Lonavala and Pune following the incident.
The injured passengers are yet to be identified. However, most of them are believed to be from Mumbai.
Since it took time to evacuate all passengers from the bus, it had not been removed from the road till 1 pm, leading to kilometre long queues on the Mumbai-bound lane. The traffic situation has normalised as of now.
Last Friday, a 35-year-old engineer was killed after he lost control of his car and rammed into a truck inside Kamshet tunnel on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The other four passengers sustained injuries, but survived.
On May 8, five people were killed when their car rammed into a flaming bus inside the same tunnel.
