Female rider without license, helmet assaults sub-inspector in Girgaum
In yet another incident of assault on police officials in the city, a 46-year-old woman riding a two-wheeler without a helmet or license got physical with an on-duty female sub-inspector over the payment of fine.
The incident took place at C.P Tank in Girgaum around 5 pm on Saturday, when sub-inspector Shubhangi Malusare was on routine duty.
When Malusare spotted a female rider without a helmet, she waved her hand and signalled the rider to stop. Upon questioning, the rider, identified as Premlata Bansal, also failed to produce a driving license.
Later, when the officer asked Bansal to pay the fine for riding without a helmet and driving license, she got into an argument with Malusare.
According to an official from VP Road police station, Bansal tried to flee the spot to avoid paying the fine. When she was held back, she allegedly scratched the officer on her hand.
Malusare received treatment for minor scratches and Bansal was booked for assault and deterring a public servant while carrying out her duty.
The Bhuleshwar resident was served notice to attend court on Monday to pay the fine and collect her vehicle.
In a similar incident last month, a female motorist riding without a helmet was arrested after she slapped an on-duty constable in Vile Parle. Her brother, who she had called for backup, was also arrested for threatening cops.
