The merit list for the special round of First Year Junior College (FYJC) online admissions will be declared by the Maharashtra Director of Education on today, July 11 at 5 pm.

Students who were either unhappy with their existing colleges, wished to change their stream, chose a wrong subject or cleared July re-exam had the option of filling a new form for securing admission under the special round. The application process for the special round started on August 8 and continued till August 9.

During this round, students were required to fill minimum 10 and maximum 15 colleges in the online application form. However, unlike the earlier process, students were expected to check the vacant seats and cut off percentages of their preferred colleges prior to applying to ensure they stood a chance of securing a seat in those colleges.

In the round, a total of 70,000 students applied for the one lakh plus seats that are still lying vacant across colleges in the city. From the total number of applicants, 60,000 were those who had not claimed a seat in the previous rounds because they failed to get the college of their choice. “Students are unhappy with their allotted seats and so we expected large numbers in this round,” said BB Chavan, Deputy Director of Education, Mumbai region.

Following the announcement of the merit list, students will have to secure admission in the allotted colleges on August 12 and 13.

On August 18, the second phase of the special round will begin for those students who did not secure admission in the first phase (August 9 to 13). Students who apply in the second phase be eligible for the leftover seats. “The exact number of unfilled seats available in the second phase will be clear after students confirm admissions in the ongoing first phase,” said Chavan.

If by the end of the second phase, there are still students who have not secured admission, the education department may announce a third phase. However, the decision on that will be taken post the completion of the second phase.
