MHADA CEO’s son found dead at Napean Sea Road high-rise, police suspect suicide
In a shocking incident, the son of senior IAS couple Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar from Mumbai was found dead in Napean Sea Road on Tuesday morning.
While prima facie the incident appears to be a case of suicide, police have not ruled out murder.
According to Malabar Hill Police, Manmath Mhaiskar left his Marine Drive home, Blue Haven apartments, at around 7 am on Tuesday. He informed his family that he was going to meet a friend at the nearby Malabar Hill.
However, barely half an hour later, the 18-year-old allegedly jumped off the Dariya Mahal building on Napean Sea Road. He is believed to have suffered serious head injuries and succumbed instantly.
The police was informed of the incident around 7:30 am and arrived on the spot in minutes.
After his identity was verified, the parents were informed and the body sent for autopsy to JJ Hospital.
Meanwhile, police have registered an accidental death report and have formed teams to record the statements of everyone concerned. They have also detained at least two friends of Manmath to find out the motive behind the suspected suicide.
Deputy Commissioner of Police and Mumbai police spokesperson, Rashmi Karandikar, confirmed that police are investigating from all possible angles to ascertain if Manmath committed suicide or was pushed by someone.
His parents are senior Indian Administrative Service officers of the Maharashtra cadre, serving in high-profile positions in the state government.
While father Milind Mhaiskar is CEO and Vice-Chairman of the state housing body, Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA), his mother Manisha Mhaiskar is Principal Secretary in the Urban Development Department.
