One dead, 5 injured in accident on Jogeshwari flyover; traffic on WEH affected
At least one person died and five were injured after a truck collided with a car and bike on Western Express Highway (WEH) near Jogeshwari early morning on Saturday.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place when a truck carrying vegetables collided with a Maruti Wagon R and a bike on Jogeshwari flyover bridge opposite Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari (East).
The exact cause of the collision is not known as of publishing this report.
However, since the roads were wet when the mishap took place, it is believed that the truck driver likely lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the divider, eventually crossing over and hitting the oncoming car and bike on the opposite side of the road.
The impact also caused the truck, which was headed towards Dadar, to overturn, thereby blocking a major portion of the flyover.
Officials from the nearby police station and Mumbai Fire Brigade soon reached the spot and rushed the injured persons to a nearby hospital. One person, identified as Badru Ansari, died on the spot while five others were injured.
All of them – identified as Dilip Gupta, Kaustubh Puri, Javed Ansari, Gajendra Gupta, and Raju Vishwakarma – were admitted to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari.
The mishap also affected traffic movement on the busy WEH. However, officials from Jogeshwari traffic division are on the spot to manage the vehicular movement.
The avoid queuing, traffic is being diverted from under the flyover till the truck and car are removed.
