Sunburn Update: Mumbai Police denies permission for hosting Guetta’s gig at BKC
The respite after changing the venue lasted less than a day, as organizers of David Guetta’s charity concert might have to cancel the gig as Mumbai Police has denied permission for hosting the event at BKC.
On Thursday, Percept, who is organizing the ‘Sunburn Arena’ event, shifted the concert from Mahalaxmi racecourse to Reliance Jio Garden in Bandra-Kurla Complex after failing to acquire the necessary permissions from the civic body.
According to a BMC official, Percept had failed to acquire the permission from the fire department, along with other NOCs, which are mandatory for holding at event at the racecourse.
The organizers also owed the civic body Rs 10 lakh, which was pending since they hosted an event at the racecourse in November last year. The matter was, however, ‘resolved’ yesterday according to Harindra Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of Percept.
Unfortunately for attendees, a day after the organizers notified the 5000 strong crowd about the change in venue, Mumbai Police has denied permission for hosting the concert at Reliance Jio Garden.
According to Mumbai Police PRO Ashok Dudhe, the permission was denied as the organizers had failed to complete the necessary requirements and legal formalities.
They had also reportedly failed to approach the BKC police station to take the necessary permission before announcing the change in venue.
An official confirmation from the organizers about the event’s status is awaited, although switching the venue one more time seems highly unlikely given the time at hand.
Percept also landed in trouble earlier, when they had to cancel their Bengaluru event at the last minute. The event was supposed to be held yesterday.
The situation only worsened after they cited the law and order situation following mass molestation incident as the reason for cancellation, but later backtracked and clarified that it was actually due to the clash with the local Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) elections.
The French DJ is scheduled to play in Hyderabad and Delhi next on January 14 and 15 respectively.
