Thane municipal school watchman rapes 2 class V students, arrested

In a shocking incident, a Thane municipal school watchman allegedly raped two class V students after showing them pornographic clips in his cabin. The watchman was arrested after one of the victims informed her parent, who later filed a complaint with the police.
The accused, Vikas Chavan, was employed on contractual basis as a watchman in Thane Municipal Corporation school in Kopri village at Thane East. He reportedly called the girls in his cabin and showed them the clips, before sexually abusing them. The 35-year-old is married and has two daughters himself.
After one of the girls told her mother about the horrific incident, she filed a complaint with Kopri police station.
“The accused pulled the girls inside the watchman’s cabin and locked the door as he lured them of showing them a cellphone but instead, he showed them pornographic clips and sexually abused them. He later threatened the girls and asked them to leave,” an officer from Kopri police station told a leading daily.
The officer also said that the watchman threatened the girls and told them not to discuss the incident with anyone.
As soon as the complaint was filed, Chavan was booked and arrested under sections 376(D) (1) for rape by custodian of children’s institution, 342 for wrongful confinement, 506(2) for criminal intimidation, 354(A) for molestation under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
He was produced in Thane Sessions Court and has been remanded in police custody till August 31.
During investigation, cops found over 350 pronographic clips on Chavan’s cell phone. They are currently trying to find out if he sexually abused any other kid at the school.
