Man mercilessly kills stray dog, says ‘kutta hi toh tha’ when confronted
On June 25, Delhi police arrested a 55-year-old man for drunk driving and mercilessly murdering a stray dog.
The incident occurred on the night of June 24 around 10.30 pm when the accused, Vikas Maheshwari, entered a posh South Delhi colony, Panchsheel Enclave, in his car while driving in an inebriated state.
After entering the colony, he was spotted by a resident there, Shalini Chaudhary. According to Chaudhary, the accused was heavily drunk and driving rashly. He soon lost control over the car and hit a stray dog. After hitting the dog, Maheshwari ran over him, killing him on the spot. Post which, he sped off.
After witnessing the horrific incident, Chaudhary immediately ran behind the car and screamed for help from locals and the colony’s guards. However, before driving away, he stopped at a nearby kiosk to buy cigarettes.
Chaudhary immediately approached him and confronted him about the incident. According to her, Maheshwari was so drunk that he couldn’t even stand straight. He even started misbehaving with her.
While speaking to Hindustan Times about the incident, Chaudhary quoted the man saying, “Kutta hi toh tha. Yeh toh aise he marte hain. Toh kya hua yeh mar gaya, yahi deserve karte hain yeh raste ke kutte. Is mein itna shor kyu macha rahe ho’ (It was a just a dog. They die like this only. This is what the stray deserve. Why are you creating such a scene?).”
After Chaudhary threatened to report the matter to police, he started shouting and fled from the spot. However, the lady had already noted the car’s number and clicked a few photographs of it.
She initially complained about the case to the police control room over call. Later, she followed up with a formal complaint.
Based on her complaint, the police traced the culprit with the help of car’s registration number and nabbed him on Saturday morning. However, he was granted bail later.
