PM Modi wants Amitabh Bachchan to be the next President of India
Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh revealed that Modi is planning to propose Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s name to be next President of India.
Singh is said to have made the claims in an exclusive interview with news channels- Zee News and India 24*7.
He further added that it was him who had introduced Bachchan to Modi when he was the chief minister of Gujarat in connection with ‘Paa’ movie. After Modi-Bachchan’s meeting, Modi had asked Bachchan to become brand ambassador of Gujarat.
The current President of India, Pranab Mukerjee assumed office in July 2012. However, it remains unclear when he will retire, with Indian Presidents having a five-year renewable term.
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan was reported quoting to an English daily that he is deeply humbled and touched by the thought. But he considers himself not worthy of such a distinguished post of responsibility. Further he stated that no such offer has come his way.
It is noteworthy that Bhartiya Janata party leader and MP Shatrughan Singh had also mooted the name of Big B as the next President of India, earlier this month.
The 73-year-old actor had in 1984 forayed into politics when he contested for a Lok Sabha seat from Allahabad constituency. He had won by 68.2% votes. However, after three years Bachchan resigned as an MP, while he was always clear that politics is not his cup of tea.
