Pratyusha’s family alleges cops gave Rahul every chance to evade arrest

Pratyusha and her family

After Rahul Singh, television actress Pratyusha Banerjee’s boyfriend and live-in partner, it’s the Bangur Nagar Police that is now getting entangled in the web of allegations.

Pratyusha’s parents have now written to the CM alleging that the 25-year-old did not commit suicide but was murdered by Rahul, and requested that the case be handed over to the Crime Branch to ensure justice for their daughter.

Also, the lawyer appearing for Pratyusha’s family – Falguni Brahmabhatt – has alleged that the police has been dragging its feet in the case and lost the opportunity to arrest Rahul despite having all the evidences in the matter.

According to Brahmabhatt, the police has been lax in carrying out the investigations in this case and have been going very slow. “Even when Pratyusha had committed suicide, Rahul was being interrogated by the police and they could have easily arrested him at the point. Pratyusha’s parents were hardly in a state to make any kind of detailed statements at the time when their daughter was lying dead in the hospital,” she told a newspaper.

In fact, the law is very clear that Rahul could even have been arrested while he was taking treatment in a hospital. If he required any medical help, the police could have referred him to a government hospital for treatment, sources said. “It seems that the police gave him every opportunity to evade arrest and he has now finally got anticipatory bail from the courts,” sources close to the actress allege.

After Pratyusha was found hanging in her house at Goregaon, the Bangur Nagar police station took down statements of her parents and booked him for abetment to suicide, criminal intimidation, and assault. However, Rahul got himself admitted in a suburban hospital following reports that he had `suicidal tendencies’.

He was recently granted anticipatory bail by the High Court till April 18, and he has to be present at the police station daily for two hours.

Speaking to media, Deepak Phatangare of Bangur Nagar police station, who is the investigating officer of this case, said that they have carried out the investigations in the right manner. “Even today, we have interrogated Rahul at the police station for about two hours and got him to describe the entire sequence of events,” he said.
