After a wait of almost 20 months, Mumbaikars will finally be able to travel via the country’s first air-conditioned local train from today.

The AC local started its maiden journey from Borivali at 10.30 am and reached Churchgate at 11.16 am.

It was flagged off by BJP MPs Kirit Somaiya, Gopal Shetty, Maharashtra minister Vinod Tawde, Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar, and WR General Manager Anil Kumar Gupta.

The 12-coach train will replace existing services and operate only on weekdays from January 1, 2018.
