Video: Massive fire breaks out at godown in Kalachowki
A massive fire broke out at a godown in Mumbai’s Kalachowki area on Tuesday afternoon.
Details:
Location: According to preliminary information, the fire broke out in a godown at Eastel Metal Company, located at Dattaram Lad Marg in Mumbai’s Kalachowki area. The godown is located opposite Aastha Maternity Nursing Home.
Time: The mishap took place around noon today, following which fire department was alerted.
Severity: Officials from the fire department arrived the spot with at least eight fire tenders and six water tankers. The blaze was escalated to Level III call as of 12:03 pm and more emergency vehicles were pressed into service. Two ambulances have also reached the spot.
Casualties & damage: No casualties have been reported as of publishing this report.
Current status: Firefighting is underway as of 12:30 pm. The residents from the nearby high rises have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and thick black smoke can be seen billowing into the sky. Mumbai Police has sealed the main road leading up to godown.
Updates:
(12:50 pm) The fire has been escalated to Level IV at 12:23 pm and fire fighting is still underway.
(1:20 pm) A total of 16 fire engines and 12 jumbo tankers have been deployed to douse the fire. The blaze is confined to a ground-plus one storey godown.
(2:10 pm) The blaze has been brought under control and cooling operations are underway. No casualties were reported in the mishap.
Cause of fire: The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The incident comes four days after a massive blaze broke out at a chemical godown on Khairani Road in Ghatkopar’s Asalpha village. The fire was doused after nearly 12 hours of firefighting.
