Mumbaikars residing in the western suburbs will have to brace for a 4-hour long power cut on Sunday, March 25 to pave way for Metro construction work.

The affected areas, where the electricity will be temporarily cut off, fall under K-West, P-South, P-North, R-South, R-Central and H-West wards.

Areas like Juhu, Versova, Vile Parle, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivli, Charkop among others will not get power supply between 3 am and 7 am this Sunday according to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).


Update: The power cut will not affect Reliance Energy customers, who have made alternate arrangements during the scheduled work.

“Despite Transmission line shifting works taken up my MMRDA for Metro construction on 25th Mar from 03 am to 7 am, power supply to Reliance Energy network customers will not be affected due to alternative network being made available by us. Assuring you of our best services,” Reliance Energy said.


During the power cut, the planning authority will undertake on of raising the height of high-tension wires in Kandivli for the construction of the Metro-7 (Dahisar-Andheri) corridor.

“Since the high-tension wires will be in the way of the construction, the height is being raised from 14 meters to 21.5 meters,” Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director of MMRDA, told Hindustan Times.

The work will be carried out in front of the Avon Plaza society at Thakur Complex in Kandivli.

The Metro 7 (Dahisar East-Andheri East) is a 16.5 km elevated corridor with 14 stations. The construction work of the corridor is already underway and is expected to complete by 2019.
