21-year-old rams speeding car into bike near Chunabhatti, kills senior citizen

On Sunday, police arrested a 21-year-old student for ramming his car into a motorbike, resulting in the death of the senior citizen who was riding the two-wheeler.
According to the police, the accused, Akshay Kulkarni, is a Bachelor of Science (BSc) student.
The incident occurred around 4 am when Kulkarni, who was travelling from Sion towards Thane, lost control of his speeding Hyundai i10 and rammed into a two-wheeler near Ahuja bridge in Chunabhatti on the Eastern Express highway.
The two-wheeler was being ridden by 64-year-old Dhamjee Nagada, who was travelling from Elphinstone Road to his residence in Mulund. After the car hit Nagada’s bike, it collided with a divider and came to a halt.
Locals immediately rushed Nagada to Sion Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. According to preliminary reports, the cause of death was excessive loss of blood. Nagada was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
After the incident, Kulkarni was booked for rash and negligent driving under Section 279 and 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 184 for driving dangerously, and 134 (A) (B) of the Motor Vehicle Act. However, he is currently out on bail.
According to an official with Chunabhatti police station, Kulkarni was drunk at the time of the accident. However, the reports of his blood and urine test are still awaited. Once the test results confirm he was driving under the influence, police will book him under the requisite sections.
Kulkarni, a resident of Kurla East, is a son of a government official.
