Speeding doctor mows down, kills pedestrian in Virar
Virar police arrested a doctor, who allegedly mowed down a pedestrian with his four-wheeler on Sunday night.
The doctor, identified as Mahadev Tandore, was driving his Ford Figo in Manvelpada, Virar (East) at around 9 pm, when he ran over the pedestrian. According to an onlooker, the 45-year-old gynaecologist was speeding at the time of accident.
The impact of the hit sent the victim flying a few feet in the air, after which he fell on the car’s windshield. The glass eventually gave in and the victim fell inside the car. Tandore and some onlookers quickly rushed the victim to Bhushan hospital in Virar.
The victim, identified as 52-year-old Kiran Kamlakar Khaire, was a resident of Virar East and had stepped out for an errand. After getting Khaire admitted, the doctor too complained of chest pain and was subsequently admitted to another hospital.
On Monday morning, Khaire succumbed to his chest and head injuries. Following which, locals gathered around the hospital where Tandore was admitted and demanded his arrest. They also asked the doctor to compensate the kin of the deceased. Virar police arrived at the hospital and subdued the mob.
The doctor was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code and arrested. He was later produced before Vasai court and granted bail. His car has been impounded by the police.
According to police, the doctor was not drunk at the time of accident.
