On Tuesday, an unidentified person driving a supercar rammed into a parked rickshaw at Bhayandar in Thane district.
The incident occurred around 11 am on Tuesday morning near Seven Square Academy near Deepak hospital in Bhayander, when the driver of the Lamborghini Huracan lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the auto rickshaw.
According to preliminary information, the car was being driven by a female driver, who seemed to have misjudged the turn. Fortunately, no one was injured.
A policemen was in the vicinity when the incident transpired, but he was helping with the traffic. Locals gathered around the car later, but the driver was allowed to leave.
At this point, it is speculated that the car was gifted by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Narendra Mehta to his wife on her birthday. However, it is not clear if she was driving the vehicle. The car had a temporary registration number.
With an on road price of over Rs 4 crore, there are only a handful owners of the Lamborghini Huracan in the city. The car boasts of a 5.2 litre naturally aspirated V10 engine which produces over 600 bhp and was launched in India in 2014.
Update: The car did belong to Suman Mehta, wife of BJP MLA. Following the incident, she took to her Facebook account and shared the pictures of her car, implying that both she and her car were fine. Incidentally, she is the chairperson of the school where the incident occurred.
MLA Narendra Mehta (seen wearing a blue shirt in the video) later compensated the auto driver for the minor damage. No case has been filed. He later told a daily, “My wife has 18 years of experience and has driven an Audi and other imported cars. The car just touched front of the auto and it was not damaged.”
