15-year-old girl commits suicide in Thane
In a tragic incident, a 15-year-old girl committed suicide at her home in Thane on Thursday.
The girl, identified as Rachna Suryakant Shinge, ended her life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her house at Balkum, Thane West. Shinge was a class X student of Bedekar School.
Her mother Sushma, who runs a beauty parlour, and her father Suryakant, a social worker, had left for work when the teenager hung herself from a dupatta. When Sushma came home, she rang the bell.
When no one opened the door after repeated attempts, she called a relative who finally broke the door open and found Rachna hanging from the fan. The family rushed her to a local hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
The family decided to donate her eyes, following which her body was sent for post-mortem at Thane Civil Hospital
Thane police, meanwhile, registered an accidental case report and started investigating the reason for taking the extreme step. No suicide note was found.
The statements of her friends and family are being recorded.
According to sources, Rachna was stressed over her impending Class X exams, scheduled on March 21. It is likely that the pressure of performing well led her to take the step.
