Zomato delivery woman arrested after video of her abusing traffic cop goes viral
The Navi Mumbai Police on Monday arrested a Zomato delivery woman after a video of her abusing and attempting to assault a traffic constable went viral.
The incident took place on August 8 when the executive, Priyanka Mogre (27), had parked her two-wheeler (MH-03-CW-2305) at the no-parking zone near Navratna Hotel in Sector 17 of Vashi.
When constable Mohan Sargar was rounding off illegally parked vehicles in the area, he instructed the towing staff to click a picture of the violation for an e-challan.
On seeing this, Mogre snapped and started abusing the cop. The delivery executive then attempted to snatch the constable’s phone to delete the picture.
When a towing staffer started recording the video of the incident, she abused and tried to forcibly take his phone as well.
While both the official and towing staff kept their cool, Mogre continued to hurl abuses at them. A few bystanders tried to calm her down but to no avail.
On Sunday, activist Dr. Binu Varghese shared a video of the incident, tagging senior authorities from Navi Mumbai police. The video soon went viral, following which police registered a non-cognizable complaint against the Sanpada resident.
On the basis of constable Sargar’s complaint, Vashi police registered an FIR against Mogre and arrested her on Monday, confirmed Senior Police Inspector Anil Deshmukh.
The delivery executive has been booked under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 294 (obscene acts or words in public), 393 (attempt to commit robbery), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC.
Varghese, meanwhile, has reached out to Zomato and sought action against the executive for her lewd behaviour.
