Cops held for raiding Powai spa, demanding bribe
The Powai police have arrested a lady inspector, two constables and two police informers for posing as social service branch officers and demanding bribe from a spa owner in Powai.
Police inspector Nagin Kale and constable Kulkarni, attached to the economic offences wing, are among the accused in the case of alleged dacoity.
In early this week, all five of them visited Powai’s Ocean Spa and blamed its owner Tarannum Khan for indulging in women trafficking and flesh trade.
Kale threatened to book Khan on false charges of human trafficking and demanded Rs 2 lakh from her by Wednesday. Fearing the ordeal, Khan agreed to pay the money. She later informed the police about the bribery.
On Wednesday, when Khan refused to pay Rs 2 lakh, the accused police team forcibly took Rs 10,000 in cash and two mobile phones from the spa, when they were caught red-handed.
A case has been registered against Kale, two constables and two others in the matter under sections 452 (trespassing), 342 (wrongful confinement), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent to secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 395 (dacoity), 170 (impersonating as public servant) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
All the accused will be produced in court on Saturday.
