Mumbai cyber crime cell nab man for cheating under the pretext of offering a job
Mumbai’s cyber crime cell arrested a Delhi-based man on Wednesday for duping a city resident under the guise of offering him a job.
The victim, who was on the lookout for a job, had created a profile on a leading job portal and mentioned his contact details. The accused, identified as Bhanupratap Singh, came across his details and decided to call him up. He claimed that he worked for a reputed company that was looking for candidates.
After an initial discussion, Singh told the victim that he would have to pay a certain fee before he could be called for an interview. The victim agreed and made the payment. Later he was asked to pay more. By the end of it, the victim had ended up paying Rs 94,000 to Singh.
After the accused stopped responding to his calls, the victim realised something was amiss and decided to take action. He approached the cyber crime cell in Bandra Kurla Complex and registered an FIR.
Police tracked his phone to Delhi and managed to arrest him on Wednesday.
