22-year-old commits suicide after husband forces to eat meat

Frustrated with constant pressure from her husband to consume meat, a 22-year-old from Nalasopara committed suicide earlier this week.
The woman, identified as Puja Dhiraj, was a pure vegetarian. After marriage, she was constantly forced by her husband, Dhiraj Lukam, to consume meat.
Puja’s resistance met with a barrage of taunts and torture from her husband.
Unable to bear the pressure any further, Puja succumbed to it and committed suicide at her Nalasopara West residence. She ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.
The Nalasopara police has arrested Dhiraj Lukam under section 306 (abatement to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused will be in police custody till April 29 as remanded by the Vasai court.
