Mohammad Sarik Qureshi, a 23 year old youth from Nalasopara, was arrested by Mumbai Police on Saturday for threatening a girl with an acid attack.

The 21 year old girl used to stay opposite the welding shop where Qureshi used to work. In his statement to the Police, Qureshi said that they had known each other for 8 months and were in a relationship.

Things turned sour when the girl’s family decided to get her married to a suitable groom. After the wedding was announced, the girl stopped taking Qureshi’s calls.

Later, when Qureshi confronted her, she admitted the reason for avoiding his calls. When Qureshi asked her to elope with him, she refused.

In a fit of rage, he threatened to inform her family about their relationship and throw acid on her. Scared for her life, the girl confided in her family and decided to launch a Police complaint.

Qureshi was nabbed from Kamathipura and booked under sections 354D (stalking) and 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
