Taxi Unions protesting outside Tardeo RTO
Your chances of getting a taxi today just got bleaker as two of the city’s prominent taxi unions have gone on strike.
Members of Mumbai Taxi men’s Union and Mumbai Taxi Association are currently protesting outside Tardeo RTO. The union members have gone of road to oppose the alleged corruption at the RTO in charge of distributing 7,800 new taxi permits in Mumbai.
In a statement given to the press, union leader A L Quadros stated that agents demand upto Rs. 20,000 and above from applicants seeking a new permit.
Quadros further claimed the protesters will send a blank cheque to Tardeo RTO chief as a part of the protest.
Govind Saindane, chief of RTO at Tardeo, has denounced the event. He is quoted saying that protesting outside the RTO is illegal and that the taxi drivers should be going to the Anti-corruption unit with their corruption allegations.
