A 14-year-old boy and his family driver succumbed to injuries on Wednesday when the car in which they were practicing driving, fell from a second floor parking lot.

The incident happened at around 12.30 pm in the Iqbal Heights building behind Maratha Mandir cinema, Nagpada. The boy resided in the same building with his parents.

The boy, identified as Hafeez Patel, was taking driving lessons from his driver Javed Shaikh. While reversing, Hafeez crashed the car into the elevator gate and plunged it onto the lift shaft. The car came crashing down, killing the two instantly.

After both son and driver failed to return home, Hafeez’s parents filed a missing person’s report with the police. Upon investigation, cops were able to trace Hafeez’s mobile phone to the building. Around the same time, the building’s watchman spotted the car fallen to the lift shaft and alerted the authorities.

Both Hafeez and Shaikh were rushed to Wokhardt Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. At around 8.30 pm, the bodies were taken to Nair Hospital for a post-mortem examination, where the doctors confirmed that the duo died of head injuries.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of accidental death.
