2 dead, one injured in wall collapse at Kalwa, Thane
Two persons, including a 10-year-old child, died and a woman sustained injuries after the wall of a house collapsed due to landslide in Thane’s Kalwa area during the wee hours of Tuesday.
The incident took place around 12:20 am at Adarsh Mitra Mandal Chawl near Dnyan Ganga school in Aatkoneshwar Nagar, Kalwa.
According to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) officials, the wall of the house collapsed due to a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in the area last night.
The house owner and his son, identified as Birendra Gautam (40) and Sunny Gautam (10) respectively, sustained serious injuries in the mishap and were rushed to the nearby Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, where they were declared dead by the doctors.
Gudiya Gautam (35), of the same family, also sustained minor injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Following the incident, Regional Disaster Management Committee (RDMC) officials evacuated 15 rooms in the Adarsh Mitra Mandal Chawl as a precautionary measure.
The incident comes a day after the wall of a first-floor flat in a four-storey residential building in Thane’s Rabodi area collapsed. While no one was injured in the mishap, two bikes parked underneath the building were damaged.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, has forecast heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane and its adjoining areas in the next 48 hours.
