3 Nigerians, Brazilian woman arrested with 6 kg cocaine worth Rs 39 crore
Police arrested four foreign nationals, including a woman, from Andheri on Saturday night and seized cocaine worth around Rs 39 crore from their possession.
A team of Amboli police, led by police inspector Daya Nayak, nabbed the accused from the Maurya Estate road in Mumbai’s Andheri area on Saturday night and recovered 6.49 kg cocaine worth Rs 38.95 crore.
The accused were identified as Neras Pokhogo (35), Michael Hop (29), Simon Agobata (32), all Nigerians; and Karle Ires (41), a woman from Brazil.
The accused were held when they were heading for the office of a courier company to dispatch the consignment. The drugs are believed to have been sourced from Afghanistan and were about to be shipped to South Africa.
The accused had concealed the drugs in rings and pipes of curtains, Additional commissioner of police, Manoj Kumar Sharma, said. These drug-loaded consignments of curtains would be then sent abroad through courier companies, he added.
The police are currently probing if courier company officials were aware of this racket.
The accused, meanwhile, were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They were produced before a local court, which sent them to seven-day police custody.
Two of the four accused have existing cases against them. Pokhogo is facing a drug case in Thane while Ires recently came out of Byculla prison after serving a jail term in connection with another NDPS case.
