Absconding builder who cheated over 350 homebuyers arrested in Navi Mumbai
A real estate developer, accused of duping over 350 people to the tune of several crores by promising apartments, was arrested from Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.
Sachin Zende, the proprietor of Amrit Developers and Nisarg Construction, was absconding since the last two years. The 42-year-old was nabbed by the police yesterday.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pravin Kumar Patil, Zende allegedly took money from several people and promised them flats, row houses, and plots in Kamothe, Khopoli and Kondale-Chinchawli areas of Panvel.
When he failed to deliver the homes, several customers approached the police.
Based on the complaints, Navi Mumbai police booked the builder last month under Indian Penal Code Section 420 (cheating) and provisions of the Maharashtra Ownership Flats (Regulation of the Promotion of Construction, Sale, Management and Transfer) Act.
Zende already has at least four cases of cheating registered against him at Khandeshwar police station in Navi Mumbai and one at Shivaji Park police station in Mumbai. All cases were registered between 2009 and 2016.
Besides, 182 cases of various offences, including cheque bounce, are pending in consumer courts. In 22 such cases, warrants were also issued against him for not being present during court hearings.
Following his arrest, Zende was produced before a local court which remanded him in police custody till Saturday.
