Fire department officials have successfully doused the blaze that broke out at the timber warehouse on SV Road, Andheri at 5:37 pm on Tuesday. The shop was located at Amboli lakda (wood) market opposite Amboli Naka near Andheri subway, Andheri West.

Fire department was alerted about the mishap immediately after the incident, following which three fire engines and three water tankers were pressed into service. The blaze was brought under control after an hour of fire fighting.

The incident caused a major scare among locals due to its proximity to other shops, all of which are involved in trading of wood, and railway tracks. However, no casualties were reported and Western Railway’s operations continued unhindered.

Since the area is prone to traffic, heavy congestion was reported during peak hours and vehicles were diverted via J.P. Road. Meanwhile, officials said the cause of fire will be revealed after an investigation by the fire department. (Visuals of Andheri fire)
