A 40-year-old professor from a reputed college in Bandra was arrested on Saturday for allegedly molesting a student while she was answering her exam paper.

According to officials, the incident took place around 1 pm in the examination hall of the college while the 19-year-old, a second-year Arts student, was giving her History test.

The student alleged that the professor touched her inappropriately under the pretext of checking the hall ticket and kept staring at her as she was writing the paper.

The victim eventually rushed to the principal’s office to file a complaint, but the cabin was empty. She then dialled ‘100’ and narrated her ordeal.

Within minutes, the information was relayed to Khar police station – under whose jurisdiction the incident took place – and officials visited the college premises. The principal was also informed about the professor’s alleged behaviour.

The student later visited the police station and filed a complaint, on the basis of which Khar police booked the professor under section 354 (criminal force or assault on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC.

“The victim has said the accused, on the pretext of checking her hall ticket, touched her inappropriately,” an official with Khar police said.

The arrested professor has reportedly been identified as Vinod.

He was produced before a magistrate court on Sunday and subsequently granted bail, Senior Inspector Gajanan Kabdule of Khar police station said.

Further investigation in the case is underway.
