DRI seizes 6.7 lakh cigarettes of foreign brands from Mumbai godown

In a major haul, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 6.73 lakh cigarette sticks from a godown in south Mumbai and arrested one person.
According to an official statement, Bipin Singh was arrested after a search by the officials from the Mumbai Zonal Unit at a godown at Chira Bazar on Sunday.
The team found 60 cartons containing various foreign brands, including Benson&Hedges, Gudang Garam, Marlboro, 555, Paris, which were recovered and seized under provisions of the Customs Act.
The DRI, however, did not declare the value of the confiscated material.
Singh, meanwhile, was produced in a local court which remanded him to judicial custody till June 25.
