Minister Dhananjay Munde, his staff test positive for coronavirus
Maharashtra Social Justice Minister and senior NCP leader Dhananjay Munde tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday.
According to sources, Munde’s report, confirming his COVID-19 status, arrived late Thursday night. Apart from the minister, his personal assistant, two drivers, and his cook have also reportedly tested positive.
Notably, all of them, including Munde, are said to be asymptomatic and in a stable condition. They have been put in isolation as a precautionary measure.
Munde, a minister in the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government, has been active in recent weeks, attending cabinet meetings and other events. He also inaugurated a testing laboratory in Beed a few days back.
He is the third Maharashtra leader to test positive for COVID-19 so far. Prior to him, PWD Minister Ashok Chavan and Minister of Housing Jitendra Awhad had tested positive. Both ministers have since recovered.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state in India as the number of coronavirus cases inch closer to the 100,000-mark. Of the total cases, over half are from Mumbai alone.
