Ministry launches ‘Mumbai Weather Live’ app, to warn Mumbaikars about extreme weather events
The Union Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) on Friday launched a mobile application that will provide information on extreme weather events in Mumbai.
The app, Mumbai Weather Live, will notify residents about weather events like heavy rain, thunderstorms, heat waves among others. The app is currently available for Android users.
“Mumbai Weather Live app is designed to provide live location-specific information on rainfall, currently at about 100 sites spread across Mumbai city, suburban areas, with Navi Mumbai region. Along with this the other important weather parameters like temperature, relative humidity and winds also will be made available to Mumbaikars in their mobile phones,” its description says.
The MoES also launched a mobile application for Chardham and Amarnath yatra pilgrims. The Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand usually experiences extreme weather events like heavy rains and thunderstorms.
Speaking at the ministry’s foundation day, Secretary of MoES M Rajeevan said they were working on an air-pollution emergency prediction system, which could be ready for launch by October.
He said the MoEs was improving day by day in providing services in monsoon forecasting and other weather or climate parameters, ocean state, earthquakes, tsunamis and other phenomena related to earth systems for public safety and socio-economic benefits.
