The upward trend in the cost of petrol and diesel continued on Sunday, as fuel prices touched record highs.

According to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers, petrol price was hiked by Rs 0.09 in Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai and by Rs 0.10 in Chennai today.

After the revision, a litre of petrol is being sold at Rs 90. 84 in Mumbai and diesel is being retailed at Rs 79.40. Meanwhile, in New Delhi, a litre of petrol now costs Rs 83.49 while diesel cost has touched Rs 74.79.

Fuel prices in the country have been on the rise since mid-August.

While the Opposition has blamed the union government for neglecting and failing to curb fuel prices, the latter has maintained that global crude oil prices and other international factors like the dip in rupee value against the US dollar have led to a hike in prices of petroleum products.
