Video: Fire breaks out at Aston Building in Shastri Nagar, Andheri
A major fire broke out at a commercial building in Mumbai’s Andheri area during the wee hours of Saturday.
According to officials, the fire broke out around 12:50 am at Aston Building in Sundervan Complex at Shastri Nagar, near Lokhandwala Circle, Andheri West.
The fire suspectedly broke out at a skin care clinic located on the 5th floor of the building and later spread to the floor above.
Mumbai Fire Brigade was alerted about the mishap at 12:54 am, following which six fire tenders and four water tankers were rushed to the spot.
The Level-II blaze, confined to 5th and 6th floors, was brought under control around 3:30 am. The fire is believed to have caused due to a short circuit, although an official confirmation from the fire department is awaited.
The incident did not result in any casualties as the building was mostly vacant when the fire broke out. However, heavy loss of property is estimated.
The building houses a Mercedes showroom, Suburban Diagnostics Centre, several corporate offices, clinics, gyms, and a co-working space. Incidentally, some of the display cars parked outside the Mercedes showroom were also damaged due to the falling debris.
Meanwhile, the BMC has cut electricity to the building and fire officials are auditing the structure.
