Video: Fire breaks out at Crawford Market
A fire broke out near the busy Crawford Market area in South Mumbai on Monday morning. The area is home to hundreds of shops and among the most popular wholesale shopping destination for a range of products.
According to preliminary information, the blaze broke out at Super Shopping Market on Abdul Rahman street at Masjid Bunder around 10:45 am today. The fire likely originated on the first floor and subsequently spread to the floor above.
Mumbai Fire Brigade was alerted about the mishap around 10:50 am, following which officials arrived at the spot with four tenders. Fire fighting is still underway as of publishing this report.
The area, meanwhile, has already been evacuated. A team of Mumbai Police and an ambulance are also present on the spot.
Since the blaze, categorised as Level-II, broke out before shops in the area were open for business, there was less crowd movement in the area. No casualty has been reported so far, although a heavy loss of property is estimated.
Further information is awaited.
