A major fire broke out at BeauMonde Towers, located in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi area on Wednesday afternoon.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out around 2 pm on the 32nd floor of ‘B-Wing’ of the upscale society located on Appasaheb Marathe Marg in Prabhadevi (near Veer Savarkar Marg, Worli).

Officials from Mumbai Fire Brigade have reached the spot with six fire engines and two water tankers, and firefighting is currently underway.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and no casualties have been reported as of publishing this report.

The luxury tower is home to a number of celebrities, including Deepika Padukone, and several high-profile businessmen.


Update:

(2:50 pm) Close to 100 people have been evacuated since the blaze, categorised as Level III, broke out. No casualties have been reported till now.

(3 pm) Seven fire engines and five water tankers have been pressed into service to control the blaze. One ambulance is also on the spot.

(3:45 pm) The fire was confined to the top two floors, 32nd and 33rd, and has been brought under control. The fire department will make a statement about the cause of fire after the cooling operations are over.

(4 pm) The duplex where the fire broke out is reportedly owned by NRI businessman Harish Fabiani.

(4:15 pm) A building resident confirmed fresh burst of flames from the side of the building. Flames appear to have shifted to the side of the same flat. Fire fighting underway.

(5:10 pm) The fire has been doused. A total of 20 fire tenders, 2 quick response vehicles, 5 water tankers and 2 ambulances were involved in the operation.

The fire officials reportedly took time to douse the blaze as the Mumbai Fire Brigade only has one ladder capable of reaching 36 storeys.
