Video: Truck overturns on booking counter at Vidyavihar Station
A brick-laden truck overturned near the booking counter of Vidyavihar station on the suburban Central Railway line on Friday afternoon.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place around noon when the truck was transporting material to a construction site.
While the truck was passing near the station on LBS Marg, the weight of the bricks caused it to overturn and tilt on the station’s booking counter, near platform 1.
Railway officials and staffers arrived at the spot first, following which they notified the concerned authorities. In minutes, a team from Mumbai fire brigade reached the spot along with an ambulance and a crane.
A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also dispatched to the site.
As of publishing this report, the workers from the construction site have unloaded the truck and the crane has managed to move the vehicle away from the building.
Around five or six people, mostly labourers, are believed to be trapped in the debris.
At least two of them were pulled out and rushed to nearby Rajawadi hospital for treatment. Both sustained severe injuries.
“As per initial report, two injured persons sent to Rajawadi Hospital,” said Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Central Railway.
The mishap also led to major crowding at the station, as both the entry and exits got temporarily blocked amid the chaos.
Further details are awaited.
