Woman delivers baby at Dadar railway station platform
A 21-year-old woman gave birth to a baby on the platform of Dadar railway station in Mumbai just before Christmas Eve on Monday night.
On December 24, Geeta Deepak Wagare started experiencing severe labour pains while she was waiting at the platform with her husband. The couple were supposed to take a train to Pune.
As soon as authorities were informed about her situation, the 24×7 medical assistance team of the railways rushed to her aid. Railway police, which was also present at the spot, lent assistance by managing the crowd.
Meanwhile, three women, including a police official, held up two bedsheets to create a make-shift labour room, where the baby was delivered.
Post delivery, the mother and the newly-born baby were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for further care and medical assistance. Both mother and baby are safe.
In a similar incident, another commuter, Harjeet Kaur, delivered a baby girl at Thane railway station in August this year. The lady went into labour while travelling from her maternal home in Diva to CSM Hospital in Kalwa.
